Welcome to the most practical Marrakech itinerary on the web, written by Eric — French owner of Riad Vendome & Spa Marrakech, IMT Atlantique engineering graduate, living in the Marrakech medina since 2013 and host to over 500 events and 10,000+ guests. This is not a generic top-10 list copied from Tripadvisor — these are the exact day-by-day plans I recommend to my own guests, tested and refined over a decade of welcoming British, American and European visitors to Marrakech.
Whether you have a weekend, 3 days, 4 days, 5 days or a full week in Marrakech, this guide gives you a realistic schedule that balances medina exploration, wellness (spa/hammam), gastronomy (cooking class), and excursions (Agafay desert, Atlas Mountains). Every plan starts and ends at Riad Vendome in Dar El Bacha — the upscale, quiet, safe area of the medina, 7 minutes walk from Jemaa El-Fna square. Direct booking from €60/night with breakfast on the rooftop terrace.
💡 Quick recommendation: For a first visit, choose the 4-day itinerary — it covers medina, spa, cooking class and an Agafay desert day with comfortable pacing. Most British couples and friend groups land Friday evening and fly home Tuesday morning.

Most online Marrakech itineraries are written by travel bloggers who spent 3 days in the city and copied the same Tripadvisor top-10 list. This guide is different. Eric has been welcoming guests at Riad Vendome since 2013, and Naima (our cook, rated 5/5 on Google with 47 individual reviews) has been preparing meals and cooking classes for over a decade. We have hosted over 500 events including hen parties, corporate retreats, weddings, milestone birthdays, yoga retreats and family reunions. We know which restaurant is reliable in November but slow in August. We know which souk vendor doesn't overcharge tourists. We know which Agafay desert provider has the cleanest camp.
This itinerary is the exact plan we send to our incoming guests — refined by a decade of feedback. Every restaurant, every excursion provider, every transfer service mentioned has been personally tested. When you book directly with Riad Vendome (WhatsApp +212 600 608 608), Eric arranges all the bookings, transfers and tickets so you don't have to. Direct booking = best rate guaranteed (5% cheaper than online platforms).
Marrakech is the most touristic and accessible Moroccan city — direct flights from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Dublin (3-3h45). The medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site with 1000+ years of history, surrounded by ochre walls and arranged around the iconic Jemaa El-Fna square. Marrakech vs Fes: Marrakech is bigger, more polished, more tourist-friendly; Fes is more authentic, harder to navigate. Marrakech vs Essaouira: Marrakech has the medina and desert access; Essaouira has the ocean and laid-back atmosphere. Marrakech vs Casablanca: Casablanca is modern and business-oriented; Marrakech is the cultural heart of Morocco. For your first Morocco trip, Marrakech is the right choice 95% of the time.
1. Jemaa El-Fna at sunset — the legendary square comes alive with snake charmers, storytellers, food stalls. Sit at one of the rooftop cafes (Cafe de France, Cafe Argana) for the best view. 2. Cooking class with Chef Naima at Riad Vendome (€40-€70/person) — make your own tagine from scratch, with a souk visit beforehand to choose ingredients. 3. Hammam & massage — the Moroccan ritual is unmissable. At Riad Vendome from €22 (private). 4. Bahia Palace — the most beautiful courtyard in Marrakech, €4 entry, allow 1h30. 5. Saadian Tombs & El Badi Palace — combo morning tour, €5 each. 6. Agafay Stone Desert — 30 min from Marrakech, sunset camel ride and Berber dinner (€45-€70/person). 7. Atlas Mountains day trip — Imlil village and Berber tea, €35-€60/person. 8. Yves Saint Laurent Garden & Berber Museum — €8 + €4, allow 2 hours.
3 to 4 days is the sweet spot for Marrakech alone: 1 day medina, 1 day spa & cooking, 1-2 days Agafay/Atlas. With 5+ days, add an overnight desert trip to Merzouga (Sahara dunes). With only 2 days, focus on medina + 1 experience.
October to April is the best time: pleasant 20-25C daytime, no rain, perfect for sightseeing. May-September is hot (35-42C). December-February is the cheapest with mild days. Avoid Eid al-Adha (June 2026) when many shops close 3-5 days.
Stay in the medina for the authentic experience. The Dar El Bacha area (where Riad Vendome is located) is upscale, quiet, safe, only 7 minutes walk from Jemaa El-Fna. Hivernage/Gueliz are modern but lose the magic of waking up in a riad with rooftop view.
Yes, Marrakech is generally safe, including for solo female travellers. Main risks: scams in souks, pickpocketing in Jemaa El-Fna at night. Stay in a reputable riad, use official taxis, learn to bargain, avoid dark alleys after 10pm. Riad Vendome staff provide free maps and safety advice.
Per person, 4 days excluding flights: backpacker €200-€300, mid-range €450-€800 (riad like Vendome from €70/night, restaurants €15-€25, 1-2 activities), luxury €1500-€3000+. At Riad Vendome: 4-day mid-range plan with breakfast, 1 cooking class, 1 spa, 1 Agafay desert = approximately €540 per person.
A guide is recommended for the first day to navigate the medina. Riad Vendome offers complimentary maps and walking advice, and we can arrange a licensed half-day guide for €35 (4h, 1-4 guests). For excursions to desert or Atlas, always go with a guide for safety.
Pack light breathable clothes covering shoulders and knees. Comfortable walking shoes (medina cobblestones). Light scarf for women. Warm layer for evenings October-March (8-12C). Swimwear April-October. Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses year-round.
From Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) to medina: official airport taxi €8-€12 (15-20 min), bus 19 to Jemaa El-Fna €2.50 (30-45 min), or private transfer arranged by your riad €15-€20 (meet & greet, recommended for first visit). Riad Vendome offers private transfer with porter service for the final 100m through the medina.
