Coming from North America? There are no non-stop flights from the United States — from New York allow about 8 to 9 hours via Casablanca on Royal Air Maroc, which hubs there. From Canada, Royal Air Maroc runs a seasonal non-stop from Montreal to Casablanca, then a short connection to Marrakech. The riad is about 20 minutes from Marrakech-Menara airport.

Deployed in 2022, it powers most of the riad's daytime electricity needs — lighting in common areas, partial water heating support, fan circulation, and pool pump operation during peak sun hours. The comparative electricity bills from 2021 (pre-installation) and 2023–2025 (post-installation) reflect a meaningful reduction in grid consumption.

Marrakech enjoys over 300 days of sunshine per year, making solar generation particularly effective and consistent. The installation includes battery storage allowing the riad to continue operating critical systems during occasional grid outages, an additional resilience benefit.

Transparent Winter Cover — Passive Greenhouse Heating

In winter, we install a transparent cover over the patio that creates a natural greenhouse effect: it raises daytime temperatures by 6 to 8°C and limits the night-time drop. This passive solution cuts our winter heating energy by around 50% — warmth without extra consumption. It is one of the most distinctive features of our eco-friendly riad, pairing guest comfort with genuine energy savings.

The 2022 major renovation prioritised traditional, low-impact, locally-sourced materials. • Tadelakt (polished lime plaster) for walls — breathable, naturally antibacterial, made on-site by local craftsmen using lime and natural pigments. Avoids the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of industrial paints.
• Terracotta rooftop tiles — produced in regional kilns, with naturally low thermal conductivity that keeps rooms cool in summer without mechanical air conditioning.
• Zellige mosaic tiles — handcrafted by Marrakech artisans using traditional methods.
• Local wood frames — cedar and walnut from Moroccan forests, sourced through small craftsmen rather than industrial suppliers.

We believe in transparency rather than greenwashing. As of 2026, Riad Vendôme is engaged in two recognised sustainability certification processes:

• Go Siyaha — the official sustainable tourism label from the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism, designed to recognise Moroccan hospitality establishments with verified sustainability practices. Status: development phase.
• Green Key — an international certification from the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), recognised in over 65 countries and trusted across the European market. Status: development phase.
