The best address in Marrakech combines four qualities: a quiet but central location (like Dar El Bacha), authentic architecture (zellige, tadelakt, cedarwood), an integrated spa (hammam, pool, massage, jacuzzi) and personalised welcome. Riad Vendôme has brought together these four criteria since 2011. Rated 4.2/5 on Google and From €70/night.
In brief — Choosing the best Marrakech riad
The Marrakech medina has hundreds of riads. Some are sublime, others disappointing — and from the photos, it's sometimes impossible to tell the difference. So how to choose? After 15 years welcoming travellers at Riad Vendôme, we have identified the four things that truly make the difference between a good riad and an exceptional one. It's neither the pool nor the number of stars. It's much more subtle — and far more important for the quality of your stay.

A boutique hotel in the medina is the authentic experience of Marrakech. But not all neighbourhoods are equal. Some are noisy, crowded, hard to reach by taxi. Dar El Bacha, Riad Vendôme's neighbourhood, is the exact opposite: it's one of the medina's most upscale and peaceful neighbourhoods, 100 metres from the Royal Palace. The alleys are wide (by medina standards), clean, and a taxi rank is just steps away. From there, the Jemaa El-Fna square is 7 minutes on foot, the souks in 7 minutes, the Marrakech Museum in 4 minutes. True luxury is being close to everything and far from the noise.

You recognise an authentic riad from the moment you step through the door. The central patio bathed in light, the murmuring fountain, the smooth tadelakt walls like marble, the zellige mosaics with ancient geometric patterns, the cedarwood hand-carved ceiling. Riad Vendôme is an 18th-century riad that belonged to Glaoui dignitaries, with two independent patios. After 18 months of renovation by 25 Moroccan artisans, it rediscovered its original splendour — without losing its soul. This is not a hotel that looks like a boutique riad: it's a boutique hotel that has crossed the centuries.

The hammam is part of Moroccan DNA. A good riad should have one — and not just a damp room with a bench. Riad Vendôme has a real wellbeing space : a traditional hammam with scrub with black soap and ghassoul clay, 2 massage rooms (patio and rooftop) for treatments with argan oil, and a rooftop jacuzzi heated to 36°C with a view that takes your breath away — the earthen rooftops of the medina, the minarets, and in the distance, the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains. It's the kind of moment that turns a stay into a lasting memory.

In a grand hotel, you are a room number. In a well-managed riad, you are a guest. Eric, French owner based in Marrakech since 2011, personally manages Riad Vendôme. He welcomes you, organises your excursions, recommends the best restaurants, puts together your desert circuit. He replies via WhatsApp within a few hours. It's the difference between « a stay in Marrakech » and « your stay in Marrakech ».

« The Riad Vendôme is a gem. Eric's welcome is exceptional, the riad is magnificent and the hammam pure bliss. You feel at home, only better. We'll be back with our eyes closed. »
« Of all the riads we have tested in Marrakech, it's the best value for money. The patio is sublime, the breakfast royal and the jacuzzi on the roof with views over the Atlas Mountains — magique. »

Dar El Bacha : upscale, quiet, safe, to 7 min from Jemaa El-Fna. Also recommended: Mouassine, Riad Zitoun, Bab Doukkala.
A real riad has a central patio with a fountain, traditional materials (zellige, tadelakt, cedar) and history. Avoid recent buildings that imitate the style.
Charming riads range from €60 to €300/night. At Riad Vendôme: from €70/night with breakfast and spa access.
Yes: family suites, safe patio, rooftop. Exclusive hire from 10, 12, 14, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 guests (12 rooms + 5 in our second riad).
A well-chosen boutique riad in the Marrakech medina offers something no chain hotel can replicate: complete privacy, a dedicated team, and an atmosphere shaped over centuries. The key differences come down to location, intimacy and personalisation. Unlike large hotels where you share facilities with hundreds of strangers, a small guesthouse gives your group the entire building — pool, rooftop, hammam, dining room — with a chef and manager focused exclusively on you.
When comparing options in Marrakech, look for three things: a licensed bar (not all properties hold this licence in the medina), a heated jacuzzi or pool (essential for groups arriving in winter), and direct contact with the owner via WhatsApp. At Riad Vendôme, Éric responds via WhatsApp within 24 hours, seven days a week, and has personally organised over 500 events since 2013.
What separates an exceptional boutique stay in Marrakech from a mediocre one comes down to three things that no star rating adequately captures. First, location: the Dar El Bacha quarter, where Riad Vendôme is situated, offers calmer streets than the overcrowded Bab Doukkala or the tourist-saturated Jemaa El Fna area — wider alleys accessible by pushchair, a working neighbourhood with genuine local life, and a taxi rank within 150 metres. The difference in atmosphere between neighbourhoods is significant.
Second, architecture. Traditional Moroccan courtyard houses are built around an interior garden or pool — the layout creates natural ventilation, sound insulation and a psychological separation from the medina chaos outside. The moment the heavy door closes behind you, the city noise disappears. This is by design, not coincidence. At Riad Vendôme, the patio's central pool and garden are visible from all floors and from the kitchen — a feature that guests with children and groups that value communal space consistently cite as transformative.
Third, service. The best properties in Marrakech are managed by a dedicated resident team — not a distant agency. Éric is in the medina, Naima is in the kitchen. They answer WhatsApp messages at 10pm and solve problems before you realise they exist. This is the standard that Riad Vendôme has maintained across more than 500 events since 2013.

The Riad Vendôme welcomes families with little ones: the pool and jacuzzi are accessible, connecting rooms suit the whole tribe, and a babysitter can be arranged on request (€20/evening).
Riad Vendôme isn't just a place to stay — it's a complete experience platform with 11 dedicated activity branches, all coordinated by Eric (owner, single point of contact since 2011). Unlike a regular hotel where you book a room and arrange activities separately, here everything is under one roof, with one quote, one contact:
One contact. One quote. One coordinated experience. From a last-minute 1-night booking to a 7-day customised Morocco circuit.
Riad Vendôme is more than accommodation — it's a complete experience platform with 11 dedicated activity branches all coordinated by Eric (owner since 2011). Unlike traditional hotels where you book a room and arrange activities separately, at Riad Vendôme you have a single interlocutor for: private riad (12 rooms, exclusive hire up to 45 guests), spa & hammam, Chef Naima cooking classes (5/5), Day Pass without overnight, yoga retreats, birthdays, corporate seminars, golf packages on 11 courses, hen & stag parties, Morocco circuits (Agafay, Atlas, Essaouira), and direct booking with no commission. One contact, one quote, one coordinated experience.
There are no non-stop flights from the United States; from New York allow about 8 to 9 hours via Casablanca on Royal Air Maroc, which hubs there. From Canada, Royal Air Maroc runs a seasonal non-stop from Montreal to Casablanca, then a short connection to Marrakech. The riad is about 20 minutes from Marrakech-Menara airport.
Riad Vendome is at 217 Derb El Halfaoui, in the Dar El Bacha district of the Marrakech medina. It is a 7-minute walk from Jemaa El-Fna square, close to the Koutoubia and the souks, so you reach the main sights on foot without needing a taxi. A member of staff meets you at the nearest vehicle drop-off point on arrival.
You book directly with the riad, not through a platform. Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp at +212 600 608 608 and you receive a written quote within 24 hours. There is no automated booking engine: every stay is confirmed by a person, and the payment terms are set out in the quote you receive.
Yes, Riad Vendome can be hired exclusively. The main riad has 12 rooms and goes up to 20 rooms with our second riad 100 metres away, for exclusive hire of up to 45 guests. During an exclusive hire there are no other guests: the pool, hammam, jacuzzi and rooftop are reserved for your group alone.
Between 10 and 22 m², depending on the room. Tan Tan is 10 m² for 2 guests on the ground floor, the junior suites Merzouga and Asni 15 m², Zagora and Essayesra and Ouarzazate and the Marrakech Romantic suite 18 m², the Dakhla Rooftop room 16 m² with direct terrace access, and the Oukaimeden mezzanine suite 22 m² for 4 guests. Every room has an en-suite bathroom with a tadelakt shower, hot and cold air conditioning, Simmons VIP bedding, a 40" TV with international channels and fibre Wi-Fi. Full sizes, beds and rates are on the rooms and rates page.
Each room has its own bathroom, most with a tadelakt shower — the polished lime plaster used in Moroccan bathrooms — and the hot and cold air conditioning works as heating in winter, when Marrakech nights drop close to 5°C in January. Towels, spa robes and a hairdryer are provided. Ask Éric on WhatsApp +212 600 608 608 for photos of the exact room before you book.
Yes. There is free parking 100 metres from the riad, and car access is via Bab Doukkala or Bab El Khemis. The last 100 metres are on foot because the alleys of the old medina are pedestrian; Éric or a member of staff comes to meet you at the car park and carries the luggage. Tell us your arrival time on WhatsApp +212 600 608 608 so someone is waiting rather than you calling from the car.
Partly, and we prefer to say exactly where the limits are. The Zagora junior suite is on the ground floor, 18 m², with step-free access, an accessible bathroom and its own private patio; the pool, the patio and the ground-floor common areas are on the same level. The rooftop terrace and the first-floor rooms are reached by stairs, and there is no lift. Access from the airport is by private transfer to the car park 100 metres away, then a paved pedestrian alley. Describe the situation to Éric on WhatsApp +212 600 608 608 and he will tell you in writing what works and what does not, before you pay anything.
The Marrakech Romantic suite on the first floor, 18 m², looks onto the pool and the lit patio in the evening, and the Merzouga junior suite has its own private patio. For two, the usual combination is the duo massage on the rooftop at €78 for the pair, the hammam and 1-hour massage ritual at €49 per person, and dinner served in the patio by Chef Naima rather than in a dining room. The riad has 12 rooms, so an evening never turns into a hotel restaurant. Tell Éric it is a couple's stay on WhatsApp +212 600 608 608 and the timings are set around you.
