The horse-drawn carriage ride around the ramparts (€20, 1 hour). The Oasiria water park. The snake charmers on Jemaa El-Fna. The camelback ride in the Palmeraie. And especially: the riad's pool after a day of adventures.

Travelling with Young Children: What We Can Confirm

Most itineraries you will find online invent age limits for activities. We do not. Here is what we can state for the riad itself, and how we handle the rest.

Under 2 yearsBaby cot free of charge on direct booking. Bottle warming and fridge access in the kitchen on request.
Room capacityFamily rooms take 2 adults and up to 3 children. Connecting rooms available for larger families.
Pool5×3 m pool in the patio, visible from the breakfast tables and supervised at all times. No lifeguard: children remain under parental supervision.
Babysitting€20 per evening, arranged with a member of our own staff, booked the day before.
MealsChef Naima cooks child portions with mild spices, and adapts to allergies you tell us about in advance.
Tourist tax€3 per person per night, payable on site.
Activity age limitsQuad biking, camel rides, hot-air balloon and cooking classes each have their own minimum age set by the provider, and these change. We do not publish a number we cannot guarantee: send us your children's ages and we confirm in writing, before you pay anything, exactly which activities each child can join.

Pacing a day in the medina with small children

Two practical points that most guides leave out. First, the heat: between 12:00 and 16:00 from May to September, the medina is hard going for a toddler. We build the mornings around one outing and keep the afternoon at the riad, by the pool, where it stays cooler under the patio. Second, pushchairs: the alleyways around Dar El Bacha are flat and wide enough for a pushchair, but the souks themselves are not — a baby carrier works better there. The riad is 7 minutes' walk from Jemaa el-Fna, so you come back for a nap and go out again without taking a taxi.

Tell us the ages of your children and we build the day-by-day around their naps, not around a brochure. Éric replies personally on WhatsApp +212 600 608 608, written quote within 24 hours.

Pacing a Stay With Young Children — What Actually Works

With a child under three, plan one outing a day and keep the 12:00–16:00 nap window. Marrakech in the middle of the day is hot and loud, and a family that tries to fit two sights plus the souks into one day spends the evening managing a meltdown rather than eating dinner. The heated patio pool is what makes the difference: it is the reason the day works, not an extra. One contact throughout: Éric, owner since 2011 — WhatsApp +212 600 608 608, written quote within 24 hours.

08:30–09:30Moroccan breakfast on the rooftop or in the patio. Children eat early and then have the pool to themselves before the heat.
10:00–12:00One outing, and one only. The Jardin Majorelle, the Bahia Palace or a slow walk to Jemaa el-Fna, 7 minutes away. Back before midday.
12:00–16:00Lunch at the riad, then the nap window kept intact. This is the part families give up first and regret. Older children swim in the heated patio pool while the youngest sleeps.
16:00–18:00Pool, or the second short outing if the children are older. The souks are calmer late afternoon than at midday.
19:00–20:00Children's dinner by Chef Naima — plain chicken, pasta, chips and fruit if that is what works, said in advance and without judgement.
20:30Parents' dinner in the patio once the children are down. On a request made when you book, Éric arranges a babysitter (€20 per evening).

Three things we would rather tell you before you book

  • A pushchair is awkward in the medina. The alleys are uneven, often narrow, and shared with mopeds and handcarts. Most parents end up carrying the youngest in a sling. Bring one.
  • The souks are intense for a toddler — noise, smells, crowding, no room to walk freely. They work far better late afternoon, and in short doses, than at midday.
  • Minimum ages for quad biking, camel rides, hot-air balloon and cooking classes are set by each provider and they change. We do not publish a number we cannot guarantee: send us your children's ages and we confirm in writing, before you pay anything, exactly which activities each child can join.

A Week-Long Family Stay at Riad Vendôme — What to Expect

How long is the flight to Marrakech from the US and Canada?

There are no non-stop flights from the United States; from New York allow about 8 to 9 hours via Casablanca on Royal Air Maroc, which hubs there. From Canada, Royal Air Maroc runs a seasonal non-stop from Montreal to Casablanca, then a short connection to Marrakech. The riad is about 20 minutes from Marrakech-Menara airport.

Where exactly is Riad Vendome located in Marrakech?

Riad Vendome is at 217 Derb El Halfaoui, in the Dar El Bacha district of the Marrakech medina. It is a 7-minute walk from Jemaa El-Fna square, close to the Koutoubia and the souks, so you reach the main sights on foot without needing a taxi. A member of staff meets you at the nearest vehicle drop-off point on arrival.

How do I book, and how quickly do you reply?

You book directly with the riad, not through a platform. Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp at +212 600 608 608 and you receive a written quote within 24 hours. There is no automated booking engine: every stay is confirmed by a person, and the payment terms are set out in the quote you receive.

Can the whole riad be privatised, and for how many guests?

Yes, Riad Vendome can be hired exclusively. The main riad has 12 rooms and goes up to 20 rooms with our second riad 100 metres away, for exclusive hire of up to 45 guests. During an exclusive hire there are no other guests: the pool, hammam, jacuzzi and rooftop are reserved for your group alone.

Is the pool at the riad safe for young children?

The pool is 5 by 3 metres, set in the patio and visible from the breakfast tables, and it is supervised at all times. There is no lifeguard, so children remain under parental supervision.
