For the autumn half-term, Marrakech offers sunshine and warmth just as Europe turns to autumn. Riad Vendôme & Spa welcomes you right in the centre of Marrakech, in the heart of the medina (the old walled town), in the safe district of Dar El Bacha: a central address from which everything is walkable, which matters enormously when you are discovering Marrakech for the first time.
With rooms for two, for a family (2 adults and 2 or 3 children) or for a group of friends, its half-board option, its Spa, its pool and its rooftop, this is a house built to keep everyone together. On site or out on excursion — the Atlas, the Agafay desert, a hot-air balloon, or a week all the way to the Sahara — you build the stay that suits you, whether that is a 4-night break or a full week.
If you are coming to Marrakech for the first time, location is everything. Riad Vendôme sits right in the centre, inside the medina (the historic old town), at Dar El Bacha — the most pleasant and the safest district of the medina. From here everything is done on foot: Jemaa El Fna square is 7 minutes away, the souks, the Bahia Palace and the Koutoubia a few minutes further. You need neither a car nor a taxi to visit. It is central, practical and reassuring for a first stay with family or friends, and it is exactly what people are looking for when they search for a riad in Marrakech city centre, a central riad in the medina, or a riad near Jemaa El Fna.
Riad or hotel? A riad is a traditional Moroccan house built around an interior patio, more intimate and more authentic than a standard hotel, while offering the same services: private rooms, pool, Spa, dining. For discovering Marrakech it is the most characteristic way to stay; and at Riad Vendôme you get the comfort of a hotel with the character of a real Moroccan house. You come in from a medina lane and find a quiet patio, away from the noise of the city, with the pool, the sitting rooms and the terrace. It is a gentle transition between the bustle of the souks, two steps away, and the calm of a house that is yours for the length of the stay. More on choosing a riad or a hotel in Marrakech.

During the autumn break, Marrakech is reliably sunny just as it starts to turn grey and cold in Europe. In late October and early November, expect 25 to 30°C during the day: you sightsee in a t-shirt and you can still swim normally in the patio pool. Evenings are milder, around 15°C, spent in a corner of the patio or on the rooftop. In 2026 the French autumn holidays run from 17 October to 2 November, and the British October half-term and the German Herbstferien fall inside the same window — an ideal slot for one last real stretch of summer before winter.
The city is about a 3-hour flight away, with no significant time difference: the change of scene is immediate, without a long haul that exhausts the children. Between the medina, the souks, a pool that is still perfectly swimmable and the excursions around the city, it is an autumn destination that works as well for families as for groups of friends on a break. At this time of year people search for autumn sun holidays or where to go at half-term with the children: Marrakech ticks every box — close, warm, genuinely different and easy to reach.

Riad Vendôme has every configuration needed to put young and old under the same roof, with rooms designed for each kind of stay:
🛏️ Double rooms for a couple, and twin rooms with separate beds for friends travelling together.
🛏️ Family rooms for 2 adults and 2 children.
🛏️ Rooms for 2 adults and 3 children.
🛏️ Triple, quadruple and 5-guest rooms.
You can book several rooms to bring the whole family or group of friends together, and go as far as taking the riad exclusively depending on numbers — 12 rooms in the main riad, up to 20 rooms with the second riad 100 metres away, which is a capacity of 35 to 45 guests. It is the obvious answer for a family reunion at half-term or a stay with several families together. See the family riad · exclusive hire for large groups.
The house also suits a couple travelling with a baby or a toddler: it is quiet, away from the noise, and the team adapts — cot on request, flexible timings, a quieter room subject to availability. Many parents search for a riad in Marrakech with a baby or with a very young child: the enclosed patio and the peaceful atmosphere of Riad Vendôme answer that naturally. See Marrakech with children.

For a family holiday without logistics, our half-board option is the strongest card of the season: breakfast and dinner at the riad, prepared on site by our Chef Naima. You enjoy your days without hunting for a restaurant every evening, and the children get home cooking — mild tagines, couscous, market vegetables, Moroccan pastries. Lunch stays free, for your outings and your excursions in the medina or beyond.
This is the real comfort of a holiday: coming back from a day of sightseeing to find the table laid in the patio or on the rooftop, with no logistics and no last-minute booking in a city you do not know. The little ones can eat early and simply if they want to, the adults linger over the evening. Dinner becomes a moment of the day rather than a chore. Half-board is particularly sought after at half-term, when families want a holiday where nothing has to be organised. Discover family half-board · half-board at the riad.

🍽️ Half-board at Riad Vendôme
Moroccan breakfast and dinner prepared on site, served in the patio or on the rooftop. The number one asset of a family holiday: no more hunting for a restaurant every evening. Lunch stays free for your outings. See family half-board →
During the school holidays, many families would rather not organise everything themselves. We can prepare a complete programme in advance: the room configuration for the whole family or group, half-board, activities at the riad (Spa, cooking, pool) and excursions around Marrakech. You arrive and everything is ready — you only have to enjoy it. Simply tell us your dates, the number of guests and the ages of the children, and Eric, the French owner who has lived in Marrakech since 2011, builds the stay around them. That is the decisive argument of the season for families who do not want to manage anything: one contact, a coherent programme, no unpleasant surprises on arrival.
A holiday is also about breathing out. Riad Vendôme has a proper Spa with a traditional hammam, two massage rooms (one by the patio, one on the rooftop) and a jacuzzi heated to 36°C looking out over the medina. While the children enjoy the pool, the parents take an hour for themselves: hammam with black soap scrub, rhassoul clay wrap, relaxing argan oil massage. It is one of the strongest arguments for this autumn window — a pause of genuine rest in the middle of an active stay.
The Spa slots easily into the rest of the programme: a morning in the medina, lunch in town, then an afternoon of hammam and massage before dinner on half-board. Treatments should be booked ahead to secure the slot, particularly late in the afternoon. See the riad Spa · the Spa packages · the traditional hammam.

Riad Vendôme sits in the centre of the medina at Dar El Bacha: the best and safest district, from which you walk to Jemaa El Fna (7 minutes), the souks and the main sights. No car is needed to discover Marrakech — a real advantage with children, and the direct answer to searches about seeing Marrakech on foot or finding a riad close to everything. And there is plenty to fill your days straight from the riad:
🛀 Spa and hammam — time off for the parents (hammam, scrub, massage). See the Spa.
🍳 Cooking class with Chef Naima — an activity to do as a family; children love cooking their own tagine. See the cooking class.
🏊 Pool, jacuzzi and rooftop at the riad, to break up the day.
🚶 Medina, souks, gardens and monuments on foot: Jemaa El Fna, the Bahia Palace, the Majorelle Garden, the Koutoubia. See what to do in Marrakech.
A cooking class during the autumn break is the kind of activity that pleases everyone: you go to the market to choose the produce, you learn the gestures behind tagines and Moroccan pastries, then you eat what you made together on the rooftop. It is also the ideal fallback on the rare cooler or cloudier day.

To vary the pace during the holidays, several day trips leave from Marrakech:
🐪 The Agafay desert — stone dunes less than an hour away, lunch and sunset, a camel ride. Family-friendly. See the Agafay desert.
🎈 A sunrise hot-air balloon flight — an unforgettable hour above the region (partner activity, on request).
🏔️ The Atlas and its valleys — fresh air, Berber villages, lunch in a family home (on request).
🥾 A trek in the Atlas — a day walk, accessible and without difficulty, to breathe and discover the mountain landscapes (on request).
🌊 Essaouira — the Atlantic and the city of the trade winds, as a day trip (on request).
All of these are arranged from the riad, in a private vehicle with a driver, tailored to the ages of the children and what the group feels like. You can alternate a day out with a quiet day at the riad, between the pool and the Spa, to keep the rhythm of a holiday without wearing anyone out.

The circuit out to the great desert is one of the strongest urges of this season: the autumn break is an ideal moment for the Sahara, before the cold of winter. For those with a full week, the stay extends into a circuit out to the dunes of Merzouga: a night under a Berber tent in the desert, sunrise over the dunes, the Todgha (Todra) Gorges and the road of a thousand kasbahs, before returning to Marrakech. It combines the gentleness of the city with the scale of the desert in a single week.
It is the kind of memory children keep for a long time: climbing onto the camels at sunset, the night under the stars, the silence of the dunes. The circuit is done in a private vehicle with a driver, at a pace that suits families, and combines with a few nights at the riad at the start and the end. See the 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga tour · all desert tours.
🐪 A week: Marrakech + Merzouga desert
A few nights at the riad plus a private circuit out to the dunes of Merzouga: bivouac under a Berber tent, camels at sunset, the Todgha (Todra) Gorges and the road of a thousand kasbahs. The autumn break is the ideal moment for the Sahara, before the cold of winter. See the desert tour →

What does a day actually look like? In the morning you set off on foot into the medina — the souks, Jemaa El Fna, the Bahia Palace — while the air is still mild. You come back for lunch at the riad or on a terrace nearby, then the afternoon splits between the patio pool for the children and a Spa moment for the parents (hammam, massage), before dinner on half-board prepared by Chef Naima, served in the patio or on the rooftop facing the lit Koutoubia.
The next day you alternate with a day out — the Agafay desert, the Atlas, or a longer run towards the Sahara — then a quieter day at the riad to recover. This one day out, one day in rhythm suits families with children particularly well: it keeps everyone's energy up without exhausting anyone, and it leaves room for improvisation, since everything is decided day by day with Eric. See a ready-made 3-day itinerary.

Marrakech is about a 3-hour flight from most major European cities, with plenty of direct flights and no significant time difference — a real advantage with children. On arrival at Menara airport, about fifteen minutes from the centre, we arrange a private transfer to the riad, then a few metres on foot down a flat lane to reach the house. There is no need to hire a car: inside the medina traffic is very restricted and everything is done on foot.
As for the suitcase, for the autumn break: light clothes for the daytime (t-shirt, dress, sunglasses, sun cream) since it is 25 to 30°C, a swimsuit for the pool, a jumper or light jacket for the cooler evenings around 15°C, and decent shoes for walking the souks. Slightly more covering clothing is appreciated when visiting certain traditional sites. Nothing complicated: you are packing for an extended summer, with just enough to cover the evenings.
Whether you have a long weekend around the start of November or a full week of school holiday, the stay adapts: a 4-night break to enjoy the city, the central location and the Spa, or a complete week to add the excursions and the desert. Families from the UK, Ireland and northern Europe on half-term, and German families on Herbstferien, most often take the full week; short city breaks around the start of November tend towards 4 nights, centred on the medina and the Spa. Either way, the riad organises itself around your dates and your pace. See the weekend package · the family weekend.
